Rob Smith has extensive experience in corporate finance, real estate, law and business management. He has invested in and owned a number of diverse operating concerns; including a wholesale distribution facility, a chain of restaurants, convenience and gas stations, manufacturing, construction, technology and retail oriented businesses. As managing partner of Chartwell he has provided corporate finance advisory services and executed large capital realizations events for a diverse clientele which includes: a $100 million in revenue cigarette manufacturer, a worldwide military parts distributor, a hedge fund startup, a retail chain of hair salons, a Canadian mining company; lumber, timber and wood products industries, metal fabricators, furniture manufacturers, a hydro-electric plant, U.S. manufacturing concerns in Mexican miquiladora operations, a national medical education company and various other service, manufacturing, technology and internet companies.
Mr. Smith obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, where he majored in history and minored in government. He attended graduate school at Emmanual College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England and graduated from the University of Richmond Law School. He was admitted to practice law in Virginia and the federal courts in 1985. He holds various licenses to sell insurance, real estate, securities. He is currently teaching  a class at the University of Richmond in Human Nature, History and Economics. He is a father of three children, Ella (19), Coleman (18) and Sally (13) and lives in Richmond Virginia. He is an avid reader and an enthusiastic supporter of University of Virginia athletics. He has coached over 50 youth sports teams and is an active member of St. James Episcopal Church



Robert H. Mitchell
Rob brings long experience in venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial banking. He has spent the last 19 years working with companies and venture funds at the board and CEO level. He has helped numerous business owners sell their businesses, acquire other ones, obtain capital, restructure debt, and investigate strategic options.

Rob has facilitated numerous transactions, the largest being the sale of Intelogistics and a debt raise for American Family and Fitness. Rob directed the operations of Centura Capital, a venture capital fund of RBC Centura Bank. Centura Capital invested in a broad range of companies that were active in physical security, software, IT services, furniture and hand-tool manufacturing, healthcare services, investment management, and aviation. He also invested in many well regarded venture funds located in the Southeast. Prior to Centura Capital, Rob was a Vice President for Emergent Equity Advisors in Greenville, SC. Emergent operated two venture funds and made investments throughout the Southeast. Prior to Emergent, he worked as a Vice President in commercial lending at Carolina First Bank and predecessor banks of Bank of America. At both banks, he worked closely with numerous entrepreneurs and middle market companies located in the Carolinas. Mr. Mitchell began his career in the U.S. Navy and spent a total of 23 years on active duty and in the Naval Reserves. He retired in 2003 as a captain.

Rob participated on the boards of directors of all the companies and several of the venture firms in which he invested. He often gives seminars to local groups or colleges, and he has also been actively involved with numerous civic organizations over the years including United Way, SC Childrenç—´ Theatre, The Light Factory, Richmond Venture Forum, Business Growth Network, CVG/Entrenet, Metrolina Entrepreneurial Council, and his church.

He earned a BA from Kenyon College, holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.


For more than 30 years, Mr. Hurst has provided audit, tax, and consulting services to privately-owned business organizations, estates, trusts, and foundations. Carroll works in the following service areas: mergers and acquisitions, structuring equity and debt financings, Troubled debt restructuring, Employee benefits and executive compensation, General business consulting, including strategic planning, business succession and estate planning. Mr. Hurst also serves multi-family apartment complexes, shopping center developers, resort hotels, broker-dealers, syndicators of commercial real estate projects, venture capital funds, automobile dealers, multi-location retail and wholesale industry businesses, and numerous closely-held businesses in the manufacturing, construction, retail, wholesale, and service industries. Many of these businesses are second and third generation family owned and operated businesses. In the 2005 and 2006 surveys conducted by Virginia Business magazine, Carroll was named one of Virginia's Super CPAs.






Alex Hamilton is a Senior Vice President with C. B. Richard Ellis, concentrating in Global Corporate Services. He has thirty years of experience in real estate with emphasis on commercial sales, leasing, consulting and development. Alex was President and CEO of Virginia Landmark. His principal activity for the last fifteen years has been Tenant/Buyer Representation as well as a continuing involvement in commercial sales activities.

Mr. Hamilton has completed over 350 transactions totaling over 3,500,000 square feet. These leases and acquisitions on behalf of clients have included corporate headquarters, state and metropolitan area agencies and several non-profit organizations spanning national, regional and local firms.

Mr. Hamilton is experienced in Tenant/Buyer Representation including preparation of Request for Proposals, lease negotiations, financial analysis, site selection, and market research.  C. B.
